Improving Team Productivity

As a project manager, it is your responsibility to maintain productivity among your team members. Given that they are people with problems and challenges, just like everyone else, it is up to the team leader to help team members keep their focus. But how exactly do you sustain something like productivity? It's easy when you only have to implement the tactics for yourself. But getting a whole team on-board, that is something different.

To help you gain focus on improving productivity in your project managment team, here are some effective suggestions.

Invite Interaction And Ideas

Productivity starts with good leadership. In other words, invite all team members to participate. Get them to bounce ideas off each other, and allow each to explain the concept behind their ideas. Instead of just taking it upon yourself to decide what's best, make it a team effort and gain a lot more perspective in the process.

Of course, you are the manager and you get the last say, but that doesn't mean it can't be reached without detailed collaboration with your team. Because when you involve the team as adults with something offer, they will naturally feel inclined to be more productive. Why? Because they know their input matters.

Have More Faith

Team members are hired and assigned for specific reasons. For example, each team member has a special set of skills that contribute to the bigger picture of the project. But you can't expect them to thrive with these skills if you keep interfering. The truth is you need to trust your team members and the positions you assigned them in.

And the moment you trust them to come through, you'll be amazed at what they will accomplish.

Consider Using Team And Individual Incentives

Companies don't really like the idea of using incentives, especially when it starts to eat into the budget. But the truth is that incentives don't have to cripple the business. Small incentives can go a long way, like getting the afternoon off or a gift voucher for something they can do on their off-time.

Sometimes, something as simple as a quick meeting to appreciate outstanding work by team members can significantly raise the level of productivity in your project team.

Motivate Team Members To Aim High

Not everyone gets to do their dream job. However, it doesn't mean that team members won't have a passion for the jobs they ultimately do get. In fact, they might even be passionate about reaching higher levels. So, always assume team members want to use their current position as a step up.

Motivate them to do their best because it will take them places. You want team members to know bigger and better projects are waiting around the corner if they handle this one with everything they have.

When it comes down to it, small gestures are all you need to increase productivity. And before you spend all that money on consultants, just give the above-mentioned tips a try first. They are a lot cheaper, and they are very effective.
